Lake Tahoe (Cliff Rock)

Cliff Rock is hidden gem known mostly by locals. It is accessed by a trail just south of Tahoe City. (This is the northern end of Lake Tahoe along Rt. 89.)

The story is that Native Americans patiently waited here to drop boulders on deer passing below. I find that hard to believe. But my guess is that it was probably used as
a lookout of some kind...

Park in a dirt pull-off just south of Barker Pass Road. A short (but steep) hike offers rewarding views of upper Lake Tahoe. Sunset is great time to be up there. Just be sure to leave enough light to get down safely...That volcanic rock is sharp!
