Lake Tahoe (Emerald Bay)

Lake Tahoe is split between two states: California & Nevada. The state border runs straight through the middle of the lake. The most popular destination on the California side is Emerald Bay.

Emerald Bay State Park is easily accessed off Rt. 89. Park in the roadside lot and immediately be rewarded with a stunning vista of Emerald Bay. Walk to the vista point and take lots of pictures. If you're feeling energetic a short scramble up the rocky outcrop is well worth it.

Vikingsholm mansion is a one-mile hike down the path to your left. It was closed-for-the-season during my visit, however I still found the trek worthwhile.

The shore of Emerald Bay is a great place to spend an afternoon exploring.

The shore of Emerald Bay has a dock for fishing and a long sandy beach for chilling-out in the sun (or shade).

Vikingsholm sits near the water in the shade of the pine trees--very Brothers Grim.

Wondering what that castle is doing on Fannette Island? It's actually a teahouse. Guests of Vikingsholm boated there for a special social event held only once-a-year!

Walk a half-mile down the beach. Ford the river by stepping across the stones. Follow the Rubicon Trail to Eagle Falls.
