Spooner Lake (1)

Spooner Lake
is part of the Marlette Lake Water System.

This system of lakes, flumes, and pipelines was created during the Nevada mining boom of the 1860s.

This National Civil Engineering Landmark supplied water and lumber to the silver mines in Virgina City and Gold Hill.

Today Spooner Lake is part of Lake Tahoe-Nevada State Park. This area of the park is popular with mountain bikers and hikers.

From the parking lot at Spooner Summit it's a short walk to Spooner Lake.

I followed a loop trail for a few miles around the lake.

There are many beautiful vantage points around Spooner Lake. I could hear the cars zooming by on US 50, but looking at the lake I felt the call of the wild.
